The Church Council oversees the management and programming of the First United Methodist Church of Shelton and  serves as the primary administrative body of the charge conference. It plans and carries out programs that fulfill the congregation’s nurturing, outreaching, and witnessing ministries. It also leads the visioning and strategic planing process within the church. The Church Council meets at least bimonthly during the year and its meetings are open to all interested persons.  Co-chair persons Robert Singetary or Elaine Wood can provide additional information.

Worship committee

The Worship Team plans and coordinates our Sunday worship services as well as special seasonal services. If you would like to help with a service or a season please let us know, everyone is welcome! We meet monthly- check the calendar for our next meeting date.

Lenten Fish Fry Dinners

Our popular Annual Fish Fry Dinners are Fridays during Lent. We serve a hearty meal of fried and baked fish, with sweet or white baked potatoes or fries, along with salad, ziti, and dessert.  Visitation Team

The Visitation Ministry is a ministry of love and compassion to those who are shut-in. This ministry allows us to keep in touch with the needs of our people, to share the love of Christ in difficult circumstances, and serve as a connection line within our church community. If you would like to be included in the visitations or would like to be part of the visitation team, please contact our Pastor for training.

Sunday School classes run from September to June, and Vacation Bible School is hosted one week during the summer.

Missions Team

We have been active during holidays with gifts to the orphanage in New York, Wesley Village and the local Team in the Valley.  We recently had Easter hunt for the children, and will be participating in the Crop Walk. The Missions Team meets on the third Monday of the month in the Giffin Room.

United Methodist Women

The Women’s Group meets the first Saturday of each month from 11am to 1pm. Bring your own sandwich or salad for yourself and we supply coffee, tea and dessert! It’s a very comfortable, informal group, and all women are invited to join. There is something for everyone to do and we are always open for new ideas to help our church and our community.

Men’s Ministry

The Men’s Ministry typically meets on the third Saturday each month. This group does landscaping and have been aiding in the handicap accessible bathroom and custodial closet construction projects. We always welcome new participants, men and women!

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is made up of elected persons who are entrusted with the care and up keep of the physical surroundings of the church. These include building repairs and grounds maintenance, improvements, insurances and regulatory compliances. There is also a fiduciary responsibility to manage funds bequeathed to the church, such as scholarship funds, emergency repair funds and investments. Meetings are normally held on the first Monday of the month.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is responsible for the financial health of the congregation. The committee raises, manages and disperses the monies needed by the Church to carry out its mission. The committee consists of the chairperson, pastor, lay member of the annual conference, chair of the church council, representative of the staff-parish relations committee, representative of the trustees, chair of the ministry group on stewardship, lay leader, financial secretary, treasurer, and church business administrator. Fundraising Committee

The Fundraising Committee runs creative events to raise funds for the missions and ministries of this church. Some of these annual events include the very popular Breakfast with the Easter Bunny, Breakfast with Santa, Halloween Bash, Dining Under the Stars, and a Talent show.
