Welcoming Church Statement

The First United Methodist Church of Shelton is a welcoming family of God committed to becoming more and more like Jesus Christ.

We affirm and respect each individual as a child of God.  We celebrate the uniqueness of each person and welcome people of every age, ethnicity, and race, sexual orientation and gender identity, marital status, socio-economic situation, and physical/mental ability.

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we strive to create a community of faith that reflects Christ’s message of love and justice.  We invite all to full inclusion in the life and ministry of our church in Christ.

Mobile Phone Text Alerts

The last two storms made it clear that we need a more comprehensive way to communicate closures and other important issues.

Text Alerts

We are starting a new text-message alert system. While we anticipate using it infrequently, this text messaging system will help us ensure that everyone gets the message when needed.

If you would like to be part of it, just fill out the simple form in the narthex and leave it in the drop box, or click on the enrollment below for the online form.

Community Dinners & Devotions: Unified in Hope

There will be two remaining gatherings, for the bi-weekly Wednesday evening dinners and table devotions.

The next gathering will be on March 26 at Huntington Congregational Church on Walnut Tree Hill Rd. All dinners will be at 6:00 PM followed by devotions at 7:00 PM.

These will be wonderful times to come together with our friends and neighbors in the peace and love of Christ

The final gathering will be at our Church on April 9th. Please plan to attend - all are welcome.

We are the People of God

The #BeUMC campaign reminds us of who we are at our best. As people of God called The United Methodist Church, we’re faithful followers of Jesus seeking to make the world a better place.

#BeUMC honors the core values that connect the people of The United Methodist Church. No matter the challenges we face, God is with us, and we continue to have opportunities to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world!

The campaign calls us to embrace our Wesleyan heritage and envision a promising future. Every day offers a chance to live into our mission and to strive to #BeUMC — to be the church our communities so desperately need.
