Welcoming Church Statement
The First United Methodist Church of Shelton is a welcoming family of God committed to becoming more and more like Jesus Christ.
We affirm and respect each individual as a child of God. We celebrate the uniqueness of each person and welcome people of every age, ethnicity, and race, sexual orientation and gender identity, marital status, socio-economic situation, and physical/mental ability.
Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we strive to create a community of faith that reflects Christ’s message of love and justice. We invite all to full inclusion in the life and ministry of our church in Christ.
Food Drive Results
Our August 24 food drive produced terrific results!
We received so much food from our generous neighbors and congregation members. The FUMC Blessing Box will be stocked well for at least a few weeks.
If you contributed food to the drive, thank you! If you know someone who did, please thank them. Together, we are helping our community by doing tangible work and serving as the hands and feet of Christ.
Spoons, Great Food, and Fellowship at Spooner House
Tuesday, July 2 marked our return to serving dinner for the residents of Spooner House in Shelton.
Through great teamwork led by Debbie Welch’s menu planning and shopping, lots of help in the kitchen, and the determination to make this a meaningful event, we served a delicious, nutritious meal to nearly 30 people, including some children who enjoyed the salad more than anything else.
It was a beautiful salad! We know the meal was well-received as many residents came back for seconds of Debbie’s secret recipe glazed chicken breast, oven roasted potatoes, fresh green beans, and dinner rolls.
Thanks to Debbie Welch, Roseann Haakerud, Karen Dains, and Adeline Hazzard for all the work to make this a success. (Pastor Bill scrubbed pots.) We will be back!
UMCOR for Disaster Relief
Our church has always supported UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, during our annual UMCOR Sunday each March and at other times
We are doing it again, this time with a targeted US disaster response donation.
If you would like to support this crucial mission of the United Methodist Church, just write “UMCOR” on your check or an envelope and place it in the offering plate this Sunday, September 1.
We will be sending the donations to UMCOR in early September.
